Castello dal Pozzo

Dal Pozzo Castle is a historic fortress located in Oleggio Castello within the Province of Novara in Piedmont, northern Italy. While its exact origins remain uncertain, the structure was first documented in the early 13th century. The site holds significant historical value due to its long association with the prominent Visconti family of Milan. Specifically, it was inhabited by the Visconti di Oleggio branch, which included Giovanni Visconti, a notable lord of Bologna and Fermo during the 14th century. Over the centuries, ownership transferred to the Visconti d'Aragona line before eventually passing to the Dal Pozzo family, who gave the castle its current name.

The architectural character of the estate changed dramatically in the 19th century under the direction of Marquess Claudio Dal Pozzo. He commissioned extensive renovations that transformed the original medieval building into a grand villa featuring a neo-Gothic Tudor Revival style. This redesign included the construction of a chapel, an eastern tower, and a distinctive octagonal tower on the southwestern corner, creating a cohesive aesthetic throughout the interior and exterior grounds. Today, the castle serves as the Dal Pozzo Hotel, offering guests accommodation within its historic walls. The property is surrounded by a scenic park and sits on a meadow that slopes down toward Lake Maggiore, providing visitors with expansive views of the water and preserving the site as a functional landmark that blends medieval heritage with 19th-century romantic architecture.
