Castel Mareccio

Maretsch Castle, known locally as Schloss Maretsch or Castel Mareccio, is a historic residence situated in the heart of Bolzano within the South Tyrol region of northern Italy. Unlike many fortifications of its era, this structure was designed primarily as a noble residence rather than a defensive stronghold. The origins of the building trace back to the 13th century, representing the oldest surviving portion of the complex. However, the castle's current architectural identity is largely the result of significant renovations undertaken between 1560 and 1570 by the Feiler family. During this period, the property was transformed into an elegant example of Renaissance architecture, distinguishing it from earlier medieval styles common in the area.
