Baqerabad Castle

Baqerabad Castle is a historic fortress located in Bafq County within Yazd province, Iran. Constructed during the Qajar era, the building process began in 1902 under the orders of Abdorrahim Khan Bafqi, the son of Mohammad Taqi Khan Bafqi, and was completed in 1919. The project was executed in three distinct stages to create a substantial defensive structure. Architecturally, the castle features forty-five rooms and two prominent watchtowers, designed specifically to serve as a secure shelter for local villagers against bandit raids. In addition to its primary role as a refuge, the complex occasionally functioned as a stockpile for grain, highlighting its importance to the agricultural and economic stability of the region during times of unrest.

Recognized for its cultural and historical value, Baqerabad Castle was officially listed as a national heritage site of Iran on August 13, 2005, assigned the registration number 13000. This designation underscores its significance as one of the most beautiful historical castles in the Bafq area. While originally built for defense and storage, the site has transitioned into a recognized tourist attraction within Yazd province. Recent reports indicate that restoration and landscaping projects have been initiated to preserve the structure, ensuring that this Qajar-era landmark remains intact for future generations. The castle stands today not only as a testament to the region's architectural heritage but also as a symbol of the community's historical resilience against external threats.
