Azeglio Castle, known locally as Castello di Azeglio, is a historic fortress situated in the town of Azeglio within the Piedmont region of Italy. Its origins are deeply rooted in military strategy, established when authorities from Vercelli relocated the settlement to its current site to serve as a fortified borough for defensive purposes. While the exact construction date is not specified in available records, the structure has evolved significantly over centuries, transitioning from a purely military installation into a noble residence. The castle originally belonged to the Ponzone family before passing into the hands of the Tapparelli and d'Harcourt families, who shaped its destiny and physical form through subsequent generations.

The estate holds profound historical significance due to its connection with Massimo d'Azeglio, a leading figure of the Italian Risorgimento movement. During the 1830s, he owned the property and frequently visited with his wife, Giulia Manzoni. It was within these walls that he composed his famous historical novel, Ettore Fieramosca. In the nineteenth century, under the stewardship of the d'Harcourt family, the castle underwent major renovations that defined its current architectural appearance. These changes included the demolition of the original medieval tower and the redesign of the façades, which were adorned with distinctive terracotta tiles created by designer Ferdinando Cocito.

Despite its rich heritage, the castle has faced modern challenges, most notably a devastating fire in 1976 that destroyed its historic library. However, efforts to preserve this cultural landmark have continued, with significant restoration works completed as recently as 2023.
